AUTHOR Q & A on BTRTG and EATBA

Q - Introduce us to your books and the main characters.

A - In 'Born To Return The Gift', Nyima is fifty years old and understands she has been objectified for her beauty and sexuality, but is in denial about how this baggage is affecting her present life. During her two week stay in a hotel, she is compelled to take inventory of her survival; unaware that her experiences will be a personal testimony of how God blesses the child who knows Him.
In 'End All To Be All', tragedy turns Michael's life inside out and he hardens his heart against God's existence. His life spirals until he can't fall any further, It's not until he's in his sixties that he recovers. He becomes involved in an entrepreneurial venture swamped in drama and deception, but after he meets Nyima he believes a stamp of legitimacy will make a difference. When tragedy hits him again, he experiences a personal revelation and cannot deny God's blessing.

Q - Take us inside your books. What are two major events taking place in each?

A - In BTRTG, a male friend offers Nyima a helping hand and then reneges on his promise. Another is when her haunting nightmare finally unfolds and she faces disruptive incidents hidden in her fragmented psyche.
In EATBA, Michael makes a move from sleeping on park benches and store fronts to a detox facility. Another is when he gets drunk after years of sobriety and ultimately finds redemption.

Q - What role do you give the mean spirited characters in your books?

A - The mean spirited characters possess attitudes common to those who haven't dealt with their own insecurities and prejudices, but capitalize and exploit what they perceive as weaknesses in other people. Each becomes a nemesis that triggers the self awareness necessary for Nyima and Michael to grow beyond their own limitations.

Q - What are some of the specific issues, needs, or problems addressed in these books?

A - Both books address how negativity can be conditioned and internalized, and how a negative can be turned into a positive. Specific issues addressed are racism; domestic violence; family dysfunction; job insecurity; recreational alcohol/drug use and addiction; sexual addiction as a substitute for love; homosexuality/alternative life styles; molestation; depression; post traumatic stress disorder; and processing the grief caused by death.

Q - Who do you want to reach with your books and the message within?

A - I'd like to reach young adults at risk of making their first bad decision; people with teenage children; individuals who have been knocked down and are giving up on the life they once envisioned for themselves; and most importantly, those who think they stand alone against the world and need to know they have a friend and savior in Jesus. The ultimate message is that each life is a gift from God and what we do with it is our gift to Him in return. In other words, I believe it was J.D. Jakes who I heard say, 'What God inhales in us is to be exhaled for everyone's benefit'.

Q - What do you want readers to gain from your books?

Hopefully, readers will raise their own consciousness through awareness of other peoples' struggles; share a new sense of reality; and be incited to make a difference. Readers will understand that God's plan for our lives is incorporated in the dreams and natural talents He gave us as gift when we were born. We can all live our best lives if we strive to use them for our livelihood in a way that benefits others. For those who have deferred their dreams, it's never too late to bring them to fruition  in some way, shape, or form. At the very least, I hope these books will provoke readers to examine their own thoughts about faith and the societal issues that can lead to color blind maladies such as depression, drug dependency, and post traumatic stress disorders.

Q - A legacy is something that is handed down from one period of time to another. Finish this sentence. My writing offers a legacy for generational change because .....

A. - the more things change, the more they stay the same, but writing and sharing insights helps us master change.  Life may move smarter and faster than before, but people still make bad choices that crucially affect their lives. There are still young girls finding themselves in grown up situations before understanding life is not the fairy take they thought. That goes for young men who are most likely to be fathers before they are emotionally mature and economically capable of taking on such responsibilities. More people are successful these days, but many others still live a handicapped existence through illicit drug dependence in a world that closes their eyes to the real problems they face. Millions of others feel powerless to live up to expectations and live prescription drug dependent lives. Stories with characters making major changes in their lives despite their overwhelming obstacles help break mindsets that bind us to destructive attitudes and behaviors.

Q - What do you think makes your books different than others?

A - They delve into the soul searching aspect of ordinary people dealing with issues that many of us are confronted with at one point or another, and scriptural references show God's influence and presence even when it is not acknowledged.
